One of the most if not the most common complaint we see at Reflexology Miami is low back pain. If you have low back pain, you’re not alone.
People who have never experienced issues with their back really can’t appreciate how debilitating it can be to have to go about living with a nagging pain in their back.
Different people are affected differently. Numbness in the lower extremities, pain from bending over and continual, general discomfort.
Unfortunately, approximately 80% of adults experience low back pain at some point in their lifetimes.
The most common cause are job related disabilities which can also be a contributor of missed worked days. It affects both men and women and ranges in intensity from dull ache to incapacitating sharp pain.
Different Types of Low Back Pain
Low back pain can be categorized into acute and chronic. Acute low back pain is characterized by sharp pain and tends to be mechanical in nature meaning there is an imbalance in the structural components of the back such as the spine, muscles, intervertebral discs, nerves and fascial tissue.
Chronic low back pain is longer standing in nature and tends to come on after injury or when acute pain doesn’t resolve. Ignoring acute back pain and correcting the imbalance eventually leads to chronic back pain.
What Causes Low Back Pain
The causes for musculoskeletal low back pain are varied, but usually either injury caused by trauma or force (car accidents, sports injuries, slip/fall) or weakness caused by structural imbalance. Pregnancy for example, where the fetus overstretches the abdominal/hip flexors muscles, accentuates the lordotic curve (sway back) putting pressure on the low back.
Occupations requiring long periods of sitting or standing place undue stress on the lumbar area. Being overweight coupled with under-conditioned muscles due to lack of exercise can lead to back pain. Lastly, studies show a strong correlation between stress and low back pain.
Effectively Treating Low Back Pain
Successful low back pain treatment includes proper assessment for the cause, identifying the structures involved, fast low back pain relief, and a long perm plan to avoid recurrence.
After proper assessment and determining the cause of your low back pain, RCR steps to success in treating low back pain include:
1) Reflex Work 2) Direct structural work, 3)oxygen infusion therapy 4) Resetting of the nerve system. Each of these steps extinguish pain, releases tight structures, has anti-inflammatory effects, and quiets the nerve system for long lasting low back pain relief.
